The first vlog from Britain has appeared on US gay website AfterElton.com.
Commissioned for an initial four-part series, Gay In The UK was posted as the first foreign vlog on the American LGBT entertainment site last week.
Gay In The UK is presented and produced by Ryan Haynes and Tim Macavoy. They treat AfterElton visitors to reports on British celebrity, showbiz and television.
In the first week of broadcast the programme has received rave reviews – encouraging news for a British produced show.
AfterElton.com is owned by LOGO, the LGBT TV channel and producers of the RIck and Steve: The Happiest Gay Couple In All The World, currently showing on Channel 4.
In the 12-minute video blog Ryan and Tim look at the week’s top showbiz stories, provide the low-down on entertainment, review British TV programmes and present The Wino Awards.
The awards are split into three categories – White, Rose and Red – and are named after a famous rehab-resistant London singer.
Gay In The UK awards celebrities depending on the quality of news story – Red as sophisticated and respectable, Rose is neither here nor there and White is simply cheap and nasty.
“We’ve been working on the concept of Gay In The UK with the producers of AfterElton.com for several months,” Ryan Haynes.
“The editor wanted something simplistic but packed full of entertainment news from the UK – so we are now consuming as much mainstream popular culture as possible.”
Ryan and Tim are also among the lineup on recently-launched queer alternative radio for youth FYi RADiO.
“It’s a very different product, FYi is about finding out what’s going on underground and GITUK is what every gay Brit is exposed to in The Sun and Heat magazine. We hope that the commission will be extended after our trial period – we have big plans for the show”
