Appeal for witnesses after homophobic attack on woman dressed as Batman character

A woman dressed as Batman character The Joker was attacked and verbally abused in Chorlton as she walked home from a fancy dress party early on Saturday morning.

Two men followed the victim and one of them began shouting threats at her as she walked down Keppel Road.

As she neared the Olympic taxi firm one of the men shouted homophobic abuse at the woman before head butting her and further assaulting her.

The incident occured around 3am on Saturday November 1st.

The 34-year-old victim suffered a serious eye injury and bruising.

The man who assaulted her is mixed race, between 5ft 9in and 5ft 11in tall, in his late teens or early 20s.

Detective Sergeant Emma Philips, from West Didsbury CID, said:

“The victim had been out celebrating Halloween and was subjected to a violent and completely unprovoked assault as she walked home.

“I would appeal to anyone who may have been waiting for a taxi, or who may have seen the victim being followed or assaulted, to come forward and contact police.”
