  1. quote: but won’t allow Christians to have the equality, the right to speak, the right to express their views.”

maybe so, but we dont use a voice of hate and incitment. We dont condem and belittle. We dont denouce and make you feel bad. Is equalty such a bad thing to ask?

Truly, this has to be the most backward thinking part of the UK and an embarrassment. Using one’s religious beliefs to inject into politics is the abmomination, not us. Religious beliefs are a chosen lifestyle and nobody comes into this world religious, its purely a personal choice, learned behaviour. If Robinson screams inequality, then he has to get used to us bashing back with equally offensive remarks about his cultist belief system. They can’t have it both ways. The sooner we depose state religion the better off the UK will be.

  3. One thing for sure the history of Northern Ireland has demonstrated over and over is that the politicians there think in a truly disturbed way. With them everything is absolute, god this god that, the logic is tortured and sound is reasoning bludgened to death by the endless rantings of their blood splattered religious beliefs. Nothing will ever move them to make religion an individual private matter and social justice a matter of equality before the law for all, nothing! They are utterly shameless and it is to be hoped that in time such people will be voted out of office and kept out.

  4. Well he could hardly NOT back her.
He has to sleep with her every night — please don’t dwell on that thought too much.
Imagine what an ear bashing he would have to put up with?

  5. He is as rancid as she is. Let’s hope that the ballot box sorts them out next time they have to stand for election.

Kick the guy out of office!
He´s abomination himself, as he shows contempt to those who he should govern also, the gay people!
It is evident that the first minister is a sham, an abomination, a bigot, a homophobe and thus he should be remvoed from office!

  7. He thinks gayness is strange, I say claiming to have direct quotes from beings that have yet to be proven in any concrete shape or form is strange.
At least gay people are available for comment when these issues arise, which is more than I can say for his ‘Almighty’.

  8. “Homosexuality, like all sin, is an abomination”

There’s no reasoning with these people at all – which makes me think that they actually DO suffer from some kind of mental problem. How convenient that the good old Bible backs up their prejudice – well, according to THEIR interpretation of it anyway. And is your suit polyester cotton, Mr R? Oh, but of course, THAT doesn’t matter, does it, when you have a ‘divine’ right to pick and choose according to your own nasty little prejudices.
Politics and religion are a frightening mix, and no way should any person with such evil, bigoted views be in a position of power.

  9. I think that anything can be interpreted as a “sin”, Mr. Robinson.

  10. “It wasn’t Iris Robinson who determined that homosexuality was an abomination, it was the Almighty.

Firstly, prove the existence of this god. Secondly, if you can manage that (and you cannot – in fact all the evidence is to the contrary) then prove this god said this. I will not hold my breath.

“This is the Scriptures and it is a strange world indeed where somebody on the one hand talks about equality, but won’t allow Christians to have the equality, the right to speak, the right to express their views.”

No-one is born religious. It is a lifestyle choice, an opinion, a political stance. Therefore where there is a conflict of interest, your views are subservient to the rights and needs of those with unchosen characteristics such as sex, race, disability and sexuality.

“Over the past few weeks, some people have attempted to suggest that I indicated that homosexuality is a mental-health issue, and they have twisted everything that was said on Stephen Nolan’s radio show,” she said in the Northern Ireland Assembly.

You are the one with mental health issues.

  11. Pathetic yet predictable fundy Christian self-martyrdom. Being required by Law to STOP abusing & persecuting others is the same as being persecuted – in their warped minds!

This sickness of mind goes along with believing the paranoid-schizoid fantasy of world-destruction that is the New Testament Apocalyptic Delusion!

It’s time people stopped tippy-toeing around the demonstrable historical fact that the 1st century Christians’ expectation of an imminent Apocalypse has been FALSIFIED by History.

They were wrong. They were deluded about their core message. So why respect the Biblical Authors’ (or fundy Christians’) opinions about anything else?

  12. Sorry but I don’t consider all the never ending history and wierdeness of northern irleand to have anything to do with Britain. It’s like a very distant violent cousin that contributes nothing and has even less to do with us and frankly should be ignored… or maybe just given back the the republic of ireland to deal with cos nobody is interested in their pathetic never ending NI hatred to each other. As far as I can see NI gays would be better just getting out of that dump and moving to mainland Britain.

religion is the abomination , indoctrination is wrong and perverse.
elected and officials are for all the people if not they should step down.bigots and hypocrites, band the churches and religions.

  14. Really people in public office or an association with public office should know better. The sooner Northern Ireland becomes part of Eire, the better!

  15. Robert, ex-pat Brit 1 Nov 2008, 10:50am

Ivan, Rob, John and Jim, totally agree, well said!

  16. Don’t forget this is the same party that murdered people just because they were catholic! Of course they can’t do that any more, so I guess it is our turn to receive the full hatred of the DUP!

  17. Simply Fascisim, how quick they are to forget that ‘Christianity’ was an excuse to murder millions of Jews in WW2. Sick, twisted evil bigots who use their religion as an excuse to hate, giving thugs an excuse to commit felony upon honest, hard working, tax paying people. I want to go into a DUP office and demand my tax money back as they do feck all work and claim they are ‘Civil Servants’ there is nowt civil about them. I am so angry, so infused with rage that i could cry, oh yes, and apparently the subject of domestic violence has been brushed over (ask around) im not saying anything, but people in glass houses should not throw stones, it is time these lazy self righteous pompous idiots be exposed for all their lies and hypocritical rhetoric. KICK THEM OUT! enough is enough. MEssage to the DUP, especially RObinson, Jesus Himself is weeping at your vile hatred.

  18. H. Davids 1 Nov 2008, 3:23pm

Doesn’t Peter Robinson make a slight mistake, invoking his ‘Almighty’, never seen or heard by anyone, whose opinion we should be paying attention to? It seems dangerous to me to take this guy seriously; he’s got an invisible friend with strong convictions, a bit like George W. Bush, whose invisible friend told him to liberate Iraq and we all know what happened there.

  19. Simon Murphy 1 Nov 2008, 7:15pm

Jim – I am very much against the facist nature of the catholic church but 1 very important fact needs to be remembered about Northern Ireland. The catholic constituency of Northern Ireland (ie those who want reunification with the Republic of Ireland) is nowhere near as homophobic as the unionist constituency (ie those who want to remain part of Britain). Thre catholic/nationalist parties are very supportive of gay rights. Their unionist/protestant brethren make up the majority of the crazed lunatics who think homosexuality is comparable with paedophilia. The reality is therefore that the vicious homophobia of the unionist leadership of Northern Ireland (Peter & Iris that is) consider themselves 100% British. Personally I think Peter & Iris Robinson should be treated in the same manner as muslim extremists.

  20. Bill Perdue 1 Nov 2008, 11:21pm

There is a resolution to the policies of apartheid, misogyny and homophobia promoted by the DUP and it will become apparent as the peace process results in the reunification and total independence of Ireland, as it must to be valid and to bring an end to communal violence.

The DUP represents a tiny minority of people living in Ireland and without English military support its influence will rapidly decline. It has no real support because it represents a tiny ultraright and much despised part of Ireland’s political life.

Until that process is complete Sinn Féin, the all-Ireland pro-independence left party has enormous support in the north and can be reliably depended on to keep the christist vermin in the DUP in check on the question of homophobia, just as they opposed the DUP’s ethnic cleansing policies during the troubles.

Soon enough the unionists will be a footnote in Irish history. They’ll be in history’s garbage can where they belong.

  21. Bill’s wikipedia sourced politics on Ireland again…. yawn.

  22. Bill Perdue 4 Nov 2008, 4:27pm

Luke, if you’re able, do a search on the web and find any Wikipedia article about Ireland containing any phraseology I used or that presents the same the political analysis I made. Then publish it.

Unlike Tories, people on the left think for themselves. Unlike Tories, we aren’t chuckleheads given to mindless chanting of the latest party rant from Thatcher Central.

Lukes insipid cluelessness again. And again. And again.
    Boring.

  23. he backs his wife how disapointing he has contradictied himself there he said he for equal rights for all but if you look at his voteing record hes against equal gay rights look on they workfor you.com TheyWorkForYou Robinson Voted moderately against equal gay rights as did his wife so if he turly is for equal rights i would like to see pagans on the streets preeching there faith without being honded and made to move along by the law/cops i would like to see those who preech about how the bible is wrong and how man worte it out preeching there views i would like to see those who views it is that there is no god /gods out preeching also i would also like to see one day that all harted wiould edn and that people will see that we are all human and we should all be equal and have the same rights it should no matter what we like or look like we are all human and we all need to be loved and all hate is wrong be it based on faith or other it is still hate and wrong ranting over

  24. “find any Wikipedia article about Ireland containing any phraseology”

Yeah, you’re right there Bill, Wikipedia is far to intelligent to use any of your archaic “phraseology” (aka bullshit). Lets face it, constantly calling everyting you see a Tory is hardly a sign of intelligence or edcuation in matter relating to a country you’ve never been to.

Its a sign your nut job.

Now, go on Bill, have another rant about how I’m a Tory. Lets keep you predictable, if nothing else.
