Pensioner found guilty of gay village stabbing
A Manchester man has been convicted of manslaughter after he fatally stabbed a young father in the city’s gay village.
David Broady, 70, will be sentenced next month.
At 7.30pm on 25 February 2008, Craig Douglas, 25, was stabbed on Canal Street close to its junction with Minshull Street and Aytourn Street.
Police and ambulance crews attended and found Mr Douglas lying on the floor with a stab wound to his neck.
He was taken to the Manchester Royal Infirmary but died soon after his arrival. He was a father and stepfather.
A post-mortem examination later revealed he died of a single stab wound to the neck from a weapon about 6cm to 8cm in length.
Broady was found guilty of the manslaughter of Craig Douglas today following a seven day trial.
Craig’s mother Sandra and father John said in March: “We have been devastated by the tragic death of our beloved son.
“No parent should have to bury their child, and the fact he has been so cruelly taken away from us makes this loss even harder to bear.
“We are all struggling to come to terms with Craig’s death and know life will never be the same again.”
