Little Britain star Matt Lucas is set to take a lead role in a new comedy with former Eastenders actor Sean Maguire.

Lucas and Maguire will star in Krod Mandoon and the Flaming Sword of Fire, described as a “groung-breaking action comedy” that is “equal parts workplace comedy and sword and sorcery fun.”

The series will be co-produced by Hat Trick, producer of Have I Got News For You, and MRC, for BBC and Comedy Central.

Krod follows the adventures of its titular hero, played by Maguire, who battles against evil ruler Chancellor Dongalor, played by Lucas.

Other characters who join Krod on his mission include Loquasto, played by Steve Speirs (Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Man’s Chest), Zezelryck, played by Kevin hart (Scary Movie 3), Bruce, played by Marques Ray Mascarinas, and Aneka, played by India de Beaufort (Run Fat Boy Run).

Hat Trick co-founder Jimmy Mulville said: “Krod has great scripts and a wonderful cast; it promises to be a real gem.”

Lucy Lumsden, the BBC controller of comedy commissioning, said: “Krod promises to be a real treat for BBC2; joke-filled, star-studded and gloriously funny.”
