Sir Paul McCartney has spoken out against claims that his song writing partner, John Lennon, was secretly gay.

A new biography of Lennon by Phillip Norman claims that the Beatles star, murdered in 1980, was gay and lusted after Sir Paul.

Both Yoko Ono, Lennon’s widow, and Sir Paul were interviewed for the book, but have now distanced themselves from the project.

Ms Ono has withdrawn her endorsement of the biography, entitled John Lennon: The Life.

Sir Paul said that he did not believe that Lennon was gay. He said:

“John never ever tried anything; I slept with him a million times.

“I’ve seen him on tour roaring drunk, out of his mind in the early days before he sobered up and went to rehab. “

“Roaring drunk and it was always with a female.

“If you’ve got a little gay tendency and you’re roaring drunk I’d have caught him once.”
