Mr Gay UK 1993 faces murder charges

The winner of Mr Gay UK 1993 will appear in court today charged with the murder of Damian Oldfield.

Anthony Morley, 35, from Doncaster in Yorkshire, will appear in a plea hearing at Leeds Crown Court.

The body of Damien Oldfield, 33, was found in the bedroom of a house in Leeds on 24th April 2008.

Mr Oldfield, who lived in Bramley, worked for the company that ran Mr Gay UK.

The Mr Gay UK winner received his five minutes of fame in 1993 when he opened a number of gay events and nights.

The competition has been going on in various forms since the eighties.

The year that Mr Morley won was the first year that the competition was held with its current name and format.
