  1. Iris Robinson is a Godly women and good on her for standing up and speaking up for what is right. Gayness is sodomy and an abomination. To me the gay pride parade is a picture of sin.

    Leviticus 18:22
You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination

    1. If you are really so against homosexuality, why are you commenting on an openly-gay news site?

  2. An abomination to whom? A god that doesn’t exist. Simply labelling things an abomination does nothing to make it true. I, for example, may believe knitted sweaters to be an abomination to the Lord and make it my life’s work to out those who dare to wear cosy woollens. More fool me…

Ah, Laura, Laura, Laura, you poor brain washed deluded fool. Please read on to see the bits of the bible you have missed out..

In Leviticus 20:13; the bible says; If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall be put to death, their blood is upon them.

So, this raises an important question. If christians observe what the bible says about homosexuality in Leviticus, why are they not telling people that homosexuals should be killed. Is it simply because Leviticus and Levitican law is actually irrelevant and quite draconian.

But the more often selected text from Leviticus is from Leviticus 18:22; You shall not lie with a man as one lies with a woman, that is an abomination

    But let’s look at some of the other law that these kind caring, loving christians choose not to mention;

    W

    What else does Leviticus say??

Don’t let cattle graze with other kinds of Cattle (Leviticus 19:19)
Don’t have a variety of crops on the same field. (Leviticus 19:19)
Don’t wear clothes made of more than one fabric (Leviticus 19:19)
Don’t cut your hair nor shave. (Leviticus 19:27)
Any person who curseth his mother or father, must be killed. (Leviticus 20:9)
If a man cheats on his wife, or vise versa, both the man and the woman must die. (Leviticus 20:10).
If a man sleeps with his father’s wife… both him and his father’s wife is to be put to death. (Leviticus 20:11)
If a man sleeps with his wife and her mother they are all to be burnt to death.  (Leviticus 20:14)
If a man or woman has sex with an animal, both human and animal must be killed. (Leviticus 20:15-16).
If a man has sex with a woman on her period, they are both to be “cut off from their people” (Leviticus 20:18)
If a priest’s daughter is a whore, she is to be burnt at the stake.  (Leviticus 21:9)
People who have flat noses, or is blind or lame, cannot go to an altar of God (Leviticus 21:17-18)
Anyone who curses or blasphemes God, should be stoned to death by the community.  (Leviticus 24:14-16)
Don’t let cattle graze with other kinds of Cattle (Leviticus 19:19)

All just a wee bit silly, don’t you think Laura – or is it only the bit about homosexuals that you believe????

Good work J. Matthews. Thanks for taking the time to post that. An as for Laura — dear, don’t you think that if people are prejudiced today, that people back in Leviticus’s time didn’t have issues too?

  5. More importantly, doesn’t Laura have anything better to do with her time than leave comments on gay interest news sites. . .

The clue’s in the title, love.

  6. (Laura, what is so good about ‘Godly’ – that’s what the 9/11 suicide bombers were, and David Koresh who massacred everyone at Waco, were after all. And let’s face it, peace is coming in your province because most are walking away from religion. So the sooner people follow the gay pride example, where people can get on with each other, irrespective of what superstitious nonsense they were brainwashed with at a young age, the better.)

Anyway, great to see Iris being treated as she deserves.

Okay Laura you numpty, scarcely could you have found a worse example to quote at us.

    Leviticus 18:22

V’et zachar lo tishkav mishk’vey eeshah toeyvah hee

The first part of this verse is literally translated as “And with a male you shall not lay lyings of a woman” Many, probably most, theologians, Bible translations and biblical commentators agree that the verse is directed at men who engage in at least some form of anal sex with other men. But they do not agree on the full scope of the forbidden activities.

The second part of this verse explains what type of sin this transgression falls under. There are two types of sin in the Mosaic Code:
    1. Moral sin is produced by rebellion against God. This seems to be the interpretation of most biblical translations imply when they translate the Hebrew “toeyvah” into English words such as “abomination,” “enormous sin,” or “detestable.”
    2. Ceremonial un-cleanliness is caused by contact with a forbidden object or by engaging in a behavior which might be quite acceptable to non-Hebrews, but which was forbidden to the Children of Israel. Eating birds of prey, eating shellfish, cross breeding livestock, picking up sticks on a Saturday, planting a mixture of seeds in a field, and wearing clothing that is a blend of two textiles are examples of acts of ritual impurity which made a Child of Israel unclean. These were not necessarily minor sins; some called for the death penalty.
The verse is incomplete. Its precise meaning is unclear. The phrase “lay lyings” has no obvious interpretation. So those with little better to do have seen fit to insert words that suit the meaning they are after. Many of the small minded, self hating bigots that have colonised the church for centuries have chosen to insert an ‘as the’ to make the phrase translate to “And with a male you shall not lay [as the] lyings of a woman.”, meaning that “You must not have sexual intercourse with a male as one has sexual intercourse with a womam” Others have chose the insert ‘in the’ resulting in a different meaning, “And with a male you shall not lay [in the] lyings of a woman.”, meaning that two men must not engage in sexual behaviour on a woman’s bed.

In the context of other verses in the Bible others have even interpreted that this part refers to anal sex between two men during Pagan rituals being forbidden.

I wonder then how you can be so certain that you are right? You would appear to have had your mind so poisoned that you are happy to believe all of the hatred that your religion spews at homosexuals without even questioning the authenticity or the rationality of the hatred you ingest.

The God you worship gave you the ability to question, might I suggest that you start making use of that ability. God forbid that you should arrive at St Peter’s gates only to have him banish you down below because you have squandered the gifts that God gave you.

  8. Robert, ex-pat Brit 4 Aug 2008, 1:14pm

Laura, I suppose you believe in the Adam & Eve creation fable, but then you must because “it is in scripture”. If that is the case, then you must also condone and support incest. After all, weren’t Adam & Eve the first parents of the human race and did they not beget children, Cain, Able and Seth? Some fundamentlist biblical scholars say they may have had as many as 50 children, a physical impossibility. This would of course imply that their children must have committed incest to people the earth. Now that explains why half-wits like you come here to post your fairy-tale twaddle. Incest my dear often causes a mutation in mental and physical capabilities as well as the watering down of DNA and the blood line, and you are a classic example of it, a moron.

  9. “And with a male you shall not lay [in the] lyings of a woman.”, meaning that two men must not engage in sexual behaviour on a woman’s bed.”

That would make sense given that there might be two lots of cum splashed around the place, and if a woman accidentally got pregnant from it there would have been no way to tell who the father was, her husband of his boyfriend.

  10. A Plea to Everyone ….. if you want to claim to be a Christian [born-again or otherwise] then please stop quoting Old Testament Jewish laws to support your point of view! Would it be asking too much that you pay a little more attention to the words and teachings of Jesus Christ – “Love they neighbour as thyself”….”Judge not, that you shall not be judged”.
We all have more than enough to do to worry about our own relationship with the Almighty [however or whoever you conceive Him or Her to be]…. I really don’t give a tuppenny fig what Iris Robinson believes, that’s her prerogative – I do, however, strongly object to her using her prominent position to peddle bogus medicine, to promote utterly discredited medical theories, and to tell downright lies about a section of society. Oh dear, she says she didn’t mean to say that …. now there’s an admission of incompetence if ever I heard one. She clearly is utterly unsuitable to chair a committee with the responsibility of overseeing Health & Public Safety.

  11. So the God Squad have started to infiltrate Pink News to peddle their messages of hate here too?

You don’t have to be Mystic Meg to be wondering is this is the shape of things to come. The far right religious nuts in this country are orchestrating an attack on gay people & we’ve got to come to terms with the fact that things are going to quickly get nasty. Our freedoms are under attack by a far nastier version of the Taliban & not one person holding any meaningful position of public office in this country is taking a stand supporting our human rights. Shameful!

Belfast Pride was absolutely amazing, I was driving early on and I was infront of that float with Mrs. Robinson herself on it!! wh

  13. So much talk here about the Bible…. Actually, there is nothing to quote. Jesus cannot be quoted to say anything at all about homosexuals–he never said anything at all about them. For a Christian, quoting the Old Testament is no alternative to following Christ himself, who was the fulfillment of the Law and the Prophets–after all, the Bible without the New Testament and Christ is Judaism.

Perhaps the DUP are Jews rather than Christians? Perhaps they think that if Christ didn’t agree with them they should look for someone else who does? Or perhaps they feel free to fill in the parts they think Christ ‘forgot’?

While Christ said literally nothing nasty about homosexuals, he had plenty to say about hypocrites. And when he used language like that of Mrs. Robinson, he wasn’t talking about gay or lesbian people. Christ excoriated the godly people of his own time; those leaders who “spoke for God”. He called them ‘vipers’. So, while it is impossible to quote Christ to condemn gay people, Mrs. Robinson should have a care for what Christ did say.

Luckily, with education and much prayer, the sin of homophobia can be cured.

As for the damage of homophobia, we must not let it keep us from accepting and experiencing the love of God. I understand why so many gay and lesbian people turn from Christianity. We have been burned by churches–which is not the same thing as Christianity, but comes to the same thing in many minds. This is a great damage done to us. It is also an indictment of those churches that are brides of hatred and exclusion instead of brides of Christ. The New Testament–that Paisleys ignore–is a “gospel”, meaning “good news”. Here it is: God loves the world. Remember that God made us in God’s own image whether we are female or male, and we became living beings when God breathed God’s own breath into us (whether poetically or factually). Far from hating the world, God loves it so much that God sent Christ to die for love of each person. Christ died so that “anyone who believes in him will never perish”. If anyone asks you, you are fully right to say Christ died out of love for each gay and lesbian person. Because God has an unimaginable, limitless love for us. I know that I am loved so much that someone died for me–Jesus did. And here’s news: because Jesus loved me and died for me, I am not bound by the Jewish Law so many Christian fundamentalists still swamp around in. Go tell the ‘fundamentalists’ the Good News of the New Testament. The gospel is that by dying, Jesus accomplished what the Jewish Law was meant to accomplish–and he did it for everyone and for always. He completed the Law. Quote Leviticus at me all you want. It no longer hangs over my head. He did that for me because he loves me. He even did it for fundamentalists, if they’ll only accept it. Does that mean the 10 Commandments are out the window? Christ said ‘I give you a new commandment, that you love one another.’ See how it takes care of the other 10? And he summed up the whole Old Testament saying ‘Love God, and your neighbor as yourself. On this rest all the Law and the Prophets.’ Christ was not anal or parsing about scripture; he went to the fundamentals, unlike ‘fundamentalists’. The gospel of Christ has always made sense to marginalized groups, and justifiably so (Marxist theory aside). I have been in straight churches where Christ was a pretty sentiment. But in gay churches, when they sing “just as I am, without one plea, but that thy blood was shed for me” they know what it means, “just as I am…I come”, and you are close to the core of Christianity.

There are at least two things about love: you cannot earn it, and it frees you even as it holds you. The word ‘religion’, ‘re-ligio’, like ‘ligaments’ that bind together, means that which ties things back together. Homophobes seek to separate us, to ‘untie us’, from the human community. Human beings are at home when they are tied together in community and love. I thank God for my sexuality, for my same-sex spouse of 30 years, for our 2 daughters and 2 grandchildren, for our church, for our friends, for our diversity, for God’s love. We should not let scars of homophobia separate us from each other or God.
