What is this nonsense about a different friendship that existed then and not now? Friendships are friendships and it is clear as crystal that Newman was homosexual and that Ambrose St John was not his only mate. But then why should we be surprised about the Catholic Church reorienting the sexual orientation of some of its greater sons and daughters, most of whom have been homosexual. A good look at the Vatican today seems to suggest that this is quite a homosocial institution. Did I only say homosocial. I am being unusually diplomatic.

“An expert on Newman said the request to be buried with another man would probably not be allowed by the modern Catholic Church.”

Proof enough….HOMOPHOBIA! How christian does it get?

“I don’t think they can just pretend the relationship didn’t exist,”
Yes, well , i think the Vatican can pretend a hell of a lot – like the deaths of millions of people in Africa due to their anti-contraceptive campaign, the abuse of 1000s of children at Catholic schools, oh is it worth mentioning the vatican’s dealings Hitler ? What about the existance of gay people as a good thing ?
The whole god-damn-mother-f**cking outfit is one big pretence .
