After last night’s business-themed garden party, attended by former Dragons Den star Rachael Elnaugh, Village Drinks has announced a high profile line-up of speakers for later this year.

A gay social networking group for professionals, Village Drinks holds events across the country for its 8,000 members.

Another Dragon, venture capitalist and multi-millionaire James Caan, will attend Village Drinks in the autumn, along with Lord Chris Smith, Sir Michael Bishop OBE.

Greg Healey, co-founder of Village Drinks, said:

“There is so much that we want to achieve for the professional gay community, and that includes sharing knowledge of how to succeed in business.

“James’ attendance at our event will definitely help meet that aim.

“With his wide-ranging business and entrepreneurial experience, James will give our members something to think about!”

Rachael Elnaugh spoke last night’s garden party at the Arts Club in Mayfair, organised by Village Drinks and sponsored by Gay Lawyers at Giambrone Law.

She spoke to the 150 guests about succeeding from defeat, and recalled how the failure of her business, Red Letter Days, brought liberation to her life.

“I see now that what happened led me to greater and better things,” she said.

Mr Healey commented:

“These are exciting times for us.

“Our vision is for Village Drinks to become an established and recognisable calendar event in localised gay areas everywhere; and to empower gay professional people to make connections and friends in a way that is easily affordable and fun.

“The days of pretentious, elitist social-networking for gay men are gone.”
