Nice to see photos of Pride London 2008.
Montreal, Canada will be having our celebrations at the end of July.
Best thing about the day? It didn’t rain. Well not much, and not during the important bits (ie whilst we were on our open-topped bus crawling through the parade route!)
I didn’t see any of the Traf Sq stuff, so can’t comment, but the parade was fun. It was also pleasing to see that the National Front stayed away – there were about 6 of them last year, so maybe they realise they have outdated, unpopular and, well, crap policies. Even the Zion Tabernacle, who brought about 25 protestors couldn’t be heard spouting their bigotry over the cheers and applause from the crowd.
Pride merited 2 column inches and a photo of Sir Ian in the Observer. The week before Glastonbury got a half page spread. I didn’t find anything in the dailies.
It just goes to show how institutionalised homophobia actually is in the media – queer is only interesting when it’s controversial.
Many thanks. It was a great ‘Pride’. But next year lets have the Mayor greet Pride at Trafalgar Square, but don’t let him lead the Parade. It belongs to us..we built it, struggled for it & he shouldn’t make Party Politcal Capital out of it, or use it as he did for electoral advantage..
