PinkNews.co.uk has today launched its new my.PinkNews.co.uk website.

The site allows readers to pluck stories that interest them from the internet and post them online for others to see.

Other users may then vote the posted links up or down, causing them to appear more or less prominently on the my.PinkNews.co.uk home page.

‘my.Pinknews.co.uk’ will work in a similar way to websites such as Digg that allow users to flag up stories and features that they find interesting.

Stories that readers vote for may then be written up fully by the PinkNews.co.uk team.

Channel 4 News’s Technology Correspondent and PinkNews.co.uk’s founding editor Benjamin Cohen said:

“The internet has revolutionised journalism and the media, we now can gain instant access to thousands of versions of the same story, often with completely different takes on the news event in question.

“Websites are increasingly handing a degree of editorial control over to readers in an attempt to help them navigate this vast array of information.

“These so-called social bookmarking websites are a new and interesting way to collaboratively define a news agenda.

“The addition of this feature to PinkNews.co.uk is yet another indication that users wish to take ownership of the net but it is interesting that PinkNews.co.uk has chosen to offer this alongside rather than instead of traditional, well researched journalism.”
