World can support gay marriage in US with a billion clicks

Substantial gains in same-sex marriage rights have recently been won in California and New York, but marriage equality still does not exist throughout the United States.

With this in mind, a new awareness effort for gay marriage rights is launching during Gay Pride Month with the goal of raising one million ‘clicks’ by the end of June.

Project From the Heart and activist non-profit organisation The Wedding Party have announced a “One Billion Clicks for Love,” click-a-thon campaign to raise awareness for equal marriage rights.

The effort seeks to raise one million hits from all over the world by the end of June on the “Wall of Love” Page, with a long term goal of one billion hits by 2009.

In addition, proceeds from the sale of the affiliated From the Heart CD, newly available on iTunes through www.myspace.com/loveandmarriage (£7.60), will benefit The Wedding Party’s equal marriage-rights advocacy and awareness efforts.

From the Heart features a variety of rising independent artists.

Notably, coming soon to “The Wall of Love” page, there will be an unreleased, live video of legendary jazz vocalist Nina Simone’s daughter, distinguished vocal artist Simone, expressing her support of equal marriage rights and singing a cover of Quiet Marie, performed on the CD by Robin Hackett.

“Wall of Love Campaign” producer Mykel says of the project:

“One billion clicks is a provocative notion and call to action: It’s time to get active world! We are causing major shifts legally and politically with the right to marry in the United States, but socially, we are light years away.

“I want to walk down the street and know I am not going to hear someone use the word faggot, dyke or hear about another homeless GLBT teen who has been kicked out of the house for being who they are.

“There is so much embedded, needless fear in our country about our community, and ‘One Billion Clicks for Love’ can help ease that fear: Help us world!”

“The Wedding Party is humbled by this visionary contribution to our mission to educate America and the world about marriage through positive and accurate media imagery and innovation,” said The Wedding Party executive director Anthony Brown.

“Proceeds from the sale of From the Heart are being graciously donated to The Wedding Party and we appreciate the powerful efforts of all involved in taking a stand for love and marriage!”
