Congratulations to Mehdi Kazemi. No one should have to undergo the tortures he endured at the hands of the ayatollahs and the insular idiots who create policy for the Home Office. I wish him the best for a happier and successful life.
And congratulations to Omar Kuddus, who helped ignite the campaign to get asylum for Mehdi and kept the flame lit. Omar never stopped his efforts in spite of all the malicious lies and filth dumped on him by Tories opposed to asylum for GLBT refugees from state sponsored murder.
Omar’s work and that of many others is a clear demonstration of how pressure from a mass of activists can help even the most reactionary and jaded bureaucrats to be humane. I hope the efforts for others are as successful until legislation guaranteeing asylum is in place.

Well done, Jacqui Smith, Omar and everyone else who petitioned our government.
I trust we will now be offering asylum for those fleeing that twat in the Gambia now as well though.
Thank God… whoever He is. I am so relieved that he now has a safe and secure future here.

This is wonderful news. I’m so impressed by the international show of queer solidarity I’ve seen on this issue. I hope to see more of it.
