4 March 2008Mayor backs Christian challenge over fostering + The Mayor of Derby is backing a Christian couple who are appealing against a decision that they were not suitable foster parents.Eunice and Owen Johns approached the council about providing weekend respite care for children under 10.They were rejected by an adoption panel after it emerged that Mrs Johns, a Sunday school teacher, wanted any children in their care to go to church on Sundays.The Johns also refused to teach children that gay and lesbian relationships are normal, as required by gay equality laws. -
4 March 2008New website promotes Somerset as a gay destination + One of England's more rural counties is being touted as a holiday destination for lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people.A new online resource, gaysomerset.com, has been launched to promote gay bars, clubs, accommodation, saunas and social groups in Somerset. -
4 March 2008NHS Trust unveils gay-specific cancer information + A Primary Care Trust in London has produced information leaflets about cancer specifically for lesbians and gay men.This is the first time an NHS organisation has produced such leaflets.The Barking and Dagenham Primary Care Trust developed them in association with the Gay and Lesbian Association of Doctors and Dentists (GLADD).Entitled Gay Men and Cancer and Lesbians and Cancer, they are the newest additions to the PCT's A Guide to Cancer series. -
4 March 2008Gay porn house ruling upheld + A Court of Appeal in Florida has upheld a ruling in favour of a homeowners' association that claimed a group of men leasing a house in its neighbourhood were violating its restrictions on running a business out of a home.The homeowner, Judith Crago, leased the home to Charles Foulk, the owner of the 'College Boys Live' pornography site.24 live feed cameras where installed so that customers could pay to watch live sex acts. -

5 March 2008Iranian and Chilean LGBT activists honoured 1 A trans activist and an Iranian queer organisation will be honoured by the International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission (IGLHRC) at a special ceremony next month.Andres Ignacio Rivera Duarte of Chile's Organización de Transexuales por la Dignidad de la Diversidad and the Canada-based Iranian Queer Organisation (IRQO) will be awarded the 2008 Felipa de Souza Award.Each award winner will receive a $5,000 (£2,516) stipend. -

5 March 2008Bi and lesbian women’s net communities studied + A London university is looking at the role that internet communities have in the lives of lesbian and bisexual women and how this may relate to health and well being.Researchers at London Metropolitan University are asking for women to take part in an online survey as part of the study, which will also consider if message boards function as a sense of community or social support.In the next phase of the study the research team will be conducting a series of interviews and are keen for bi and lesbian women to take part. -
