Lindsey German has confirmed that she will join other candidates for Mayor of London at a gay hustings event next month.

The Respect – The Left List candidate will appear alongside incumbent Mayor Ken Livingstone, Tory candidate Boris Johnson, Lib Dem Brian Paddick and Green party candidate Sian Berry at the event at BFI Southbank on Saturday 19th April.

The Stonewall hustings will be the last before Londoners go to the polls on May 1st.

Ms German is a member of the Central Committee of the Socialist Workers Party and the convener of the Stop The War Coalition.

She stood for Mayor of London in 2004 for the Respect: The Unity Coalition and came fifth, with 3.2% of first preference votes.

In the 2005 general election took 19.5% of the vote in the West Ham constituency, taking second place.

The coalition split last year, with the George Galloway faction retaining the use of the party name, Respect Renewal, and accusing the SWP faction of control-freakery.

Mr Galloway is standing for the London Assembly but supporting the incumbent Mayor Ken Livingstone for re-election.

The SWP accuse Mr Galloway of moving to the right and being more concerned with winning elections than the principles of the coalition.

Ms German will appear on the ballot paper as the candidate for The Left List.

PinkNews.co.uk is proud to be Stonewall’s media partner for the hustings, which will be held at the BFI Southbank between 11am and 12.30pm.

More than 200 people have already registered their interest in attending.

Ben Summerskill, chief executive of Stonewall, said:

“We are delighted at the huge response so far, and it looks like it will be one of the most successful hustings of the campaign.”

The event is open to everyone, but in order to ensure a seat you must register here.
