20 March 2008Two EU cities refuse to sign gay rights appeal 9 The Mayors of Riga in Latvia and Tallinn in Estonia have declined to take part in a campaign affirming freedom of assembly and expression for LGBT people in Europe.The Europe branch of the International Gay and Lesbian Association wanted the leaders of those cities to join 19 others in Europe and declare their support for their initiative.Gay campaigners were attacked with eggs and bags of excrement as they aimed to quietly celebrate Riga Pride in 2006. -
20 March 2008No investigation into MP’s payments to family + The Metropolitan police will investigate former Tory MP Derek Conway about payments he made to two of his children for "working" for him.Scotland Yard announced this evening that it did not believe it was "appropriate."Mr Conway was suspended from the House of Commons for ten days and ordered to repay more than £13,000 after the Commons Standards and Privileges Committee decided he had effectively defrauded the taxpayer.
