Two major gay celebrations in England are inviting people to get involved.

Pride in Brighton and Hove is holding an open meeting for anyone who is interested in joining the parade, applying for a grant or having a stall at this summer’s event.

Manchester Pride, celebrating its 18th year, is urging people who wish to take part in 2008 to submit applications as soon as possible.

Jackie Crozier, festival manager of Manchester Pride, said:

“Joining the parade is an ideal opportunity to place your cause at the heart of Pride whilst demonstrating your support for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.”

Brighton Pride organisers are inviting people to a meeting on Tuesday 1st April at 6pm at the Friends Meeting House, where local community groups, businesses and supporters will provide information on all the different ways you can take part.

“This year’s theme, Pride Around The World, should provide lots of inspiration for some fantastic costumes, floats and events throughout the week,” the organisers said.

“The Friends Meeting House is fully wheelchair accessible and has a hearing loop; but if you have any other access requirements please let us know by Tuesday 25th March. You can contact our office on 01273 775939 or office@brightonpride.org.”

The 2008 Manchester Pride Parade will take place on the afternoon of Saturday 25th August, creating a carnival of colour as it weaves through the streets of Manchester city centre.

The team at Manchester Pride are appealing for a wide range of entrants, from the flamboyant and colourful to the hilarious and entertaining.

Original and effective entries do not necessarily require big budgets and large vehicles.

Some of the most effective entries can be created through simple coordinated costumes, props or banners.
