New London route for 10K Crusaid walk
Crusaid’s Walk for Life has announced a new and improved route for this years event.
The sponsored walk, which last year raised £375,000, supports poor and marginalised people affected by HIV and AIDS in the UK and Africa.
Europe’s largest fundraising walk for HIV kicks off at the Event Village, based at Potters Fields Park, on the 1st June.
The new 10 kilometre route will snake through London, taking in landmarks including Tower Bridge, St Paul’s, the Old Bailey, Covent Garden, the London Eye and the Millennium Bridge.
“Crusaid’s Walk for Life is open to everybody. There is no registration fee and no minimum fundraising target,” said event manager Jo Morgans.
“There is a real community atmosphere on site and on route.
“In fact, it’s 10k of laughing, singing, chatting and sightseeing. I would encourage everybody to sign up and have a great day out for a very important cause.”
Last year more than 2,300 people, including comedian Alan Carr and the cast of Wicked took part in the event, which was held in Hyde Park.
This year the organisers hope that the new route will attract a bigger crowd.
After completing the 10k walkers can eat, drink, relax and be entertained back at the Event Village, located in between Tower Bridge and City Hall.
Since its launch in 1989 Crusaid’s Walk for Life has raised millions to fight the global HIV and AIDS pandemic.
They have provided support across the UK sector to raise the quality of clinical care, promote education and awareness of the virus and support community projects in the advancement of good practice and advocacy.
Crusaid’s African projects provide clinical treatment, orphan care and community support to thousands of the most impoverished people who have nowhere else to turn.
