Tasmania DOES recognise same-sex unions. It has a civil union scheme which gives same-sex couples the same rights as married couples in state law. This is the only civil union scheme in Australia.Sadly, Jaason Simmons’ Canadian marriage will not be recognised in Tasmania because marriage is governed by federal law in Australia and our federal government is deeply opposed to equality in this area.
