Blimey O’Reilly, someone used the Bible to defend homosexuality – what a topsy-turvy world we’re living in.

  2. While I do not expect a different position from Obama, I find rather appalling the very sad attempt to use the magnificent ‘Sermon on the Mount’ to justify a dissensioned lifestyle which throughout scripture the LORD openly condemns. When God condemns an act it is because it is injurious to the person, and causes them to be less than the whole and wondrous thing he meant them to be. The Old Testament warns about it; it is against Levitical law, and the New Testament speaks of it as spiritual reprobation and ‘abusers of themselves with mankind’. It also condemns other forms of aberrant behavior, and calls all to love one another and not destroy and hate. The balance has to be achieved without giving in to what destroys the person and society. That is where we fail: we either ‘give in’ and say ‘all ways o.k’ or we become legalistic and cruel and say ‘killing’s too good for them’. We need to view it as the aberration and harm that it is to the person and his or her social world, but still hold the essence of the person , as God does. To use scripture though, especially the words of the Holy One of Israel to justify a series of vile behaviors, often directed towards unwilling others, is abominable.
