9:20 PM — Members of the Westboro Baptist Church have picketed an awards ceremony where fellow actors paid tribute to Heath Ledger.Church members displayed signs reading "Heath's in Hell" at film stars attending the Screen Actors Guild Awards.Heath Ledger died in New York last week. The cause of death has not yet been determined. His family held a private memorial service in Los Angeles yesterday.

Police investigate alleged rape in gay sauna
4:30 PM — Officers from the Greater Manchester police have sealed off an area in the centre of the city around a gay sauna.It is thought their investigations focus on the Basement Sauna on Tariff St.A rape reportedly took place at around 02:00 this morning.Anyone with information has been asked to contact police, who have interviewed the victim of the alleged attack.

3:45 PM — The son of Kathleen Sebelius, the Governor of Kansas, is currently selling a board game called Don't Drop the Soap, a prison-themed game he created as part of a class project at the Rhode Island School of Design.John Sebelius, 23, has the backing of his mother and father, U.S. Magistrate Judge Gary Sebelius.Sebelius spokeswoman Nicole Corcoran told AP both parents '"are very proud of their son John's creativity and talent."
Tory MP arrested for allegedly assaulting his children 2
3:45 PM — A close friend of Tory leader David Cameron was arrested and then held at a police station for more than 12 hours for an alleged assault on two teenagers.Shadow work and pensions minister Nigel Waterson, who has been the MP for Eastbourne since 1992, was released by police yesterday morning.The Daily Telegraph reports that the teenagers in question are Mr Waterson's son and daughter.
UK prepares to celebrate LGBT History Month
3:00 PM — Hundreds of individual events are scheduled to take place throughout the UK to celebrate the fourth annual LGBT History Month, which begins on Friday and continues throughout February.LGBT History Month was started by LGBT campaigning organisation Schools Out.Founded and run by volunteers, it first took place in February 2005, in the wake of the abolition of Section 28 and has grown each year.
Israeli gays target MPs over proposed ban on marches
3:00 PM — LGBT activists in Israel have targeted the homes of two homophobic members of Parliament with posters protesting their support of a ban on gay Pride.Nissim Zeev and Eliahu Gabbay's residences were visited by Jerusalem Open House, a group fighting for the right to march in the city."In this house lives an MK (MP) who is trying to outlaw the citizens' right to march and protest on the streets of Jerusalem," one of the posters read.
Activists to protest against Moscow’s homophobic Mayor 3
2:30 PM — Gay rights activists in Russia are planning to stage a protest against the Mayor of Moscow's opposition to LGBT Pride events when he visits Paris next month.Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov, who banned two gay pride parades in 2006 and 2007 and seems likely to ban the third pride on 31 May this year, is going to be in Paris to take part in the M4 meeting (a summit of Paris, Berlin, London and Moscow Mayors) which will take place on 18-19 February in Paris City Hall.
GLAAD’s call to action over tabloid’s “evil lesbian” headline
2:30 PM — An American gay rights group has urged people to complain to the tabloid newspaper New York Post after staff refused to alter a offensive headline.The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, which monitors US media, contacted the paper to complain about its treatment of a child abuse story."Evil Lesbian Mom Left Toddler to Die Slow Death: DA," was the Post headline, which can still be viewed on their website.
Mayoral candidate wants to cut Pride London funding 17
1:31 PM — An MEP who is standing as the UK Independence Party candidate for Mayor of London has said that if elected he would withdraw funding from the city's Pride celebrations.Gerard Batten also pledged to target ethnic minority groups. In the 2004 Mayoral elections UKIP came fourth, winning 6% (115,665) of first preference votes.A founder member of the party, Mr Batten has been an MEP for the London region since 2004.
