    Uruguay’s President grants legal rights for gay couples 2

    President Vazquez signed the law on Thursday

    12:49 AM — Uruguay has become the first Latin American country to to recognise same-sex civil unions after President Tabare Vazquez signed the law that had been passed earlier this month.The law grants cohabiting couples who have lived together for more than five years the same rights as straight married couples. The text states that "two people -- of any sex, identity, orientation or sexual option -- who maintain an emotional relationship sexual in nature, that is exclusive, stable and permanent, without being united in matrimony."

    12:01 AM — The Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs may recommend reclassifying gamma butyrlactone (GBL) to a class-C drug after a rise in use in the club scene.Unlike, gamma hydroxybutyrate, (GHB), which is illegal, GBL is perfectly legal and turns into GHB once in the blood stream. Both drugs are increasingly used in the gay club scene but while GHB is sold by drug dealers, illegally, GBL is found in products such as nail varnish remover.
