One of the most highly anticipated annual events on the gay social circuit has announced plans for the 2008 celebration.

Unlike years past, Sydney Mardi Gras 2008 will run three weeks instead of four and be a tighter celebration over all, with fewer conflicting events and lots of big name international gay favourites on hand.

On the bill to entertain the gay masses at Mardi Gras this year are pop diva Cyndi Lauper, fresh from her True Colors tour in the US, and comedian Margaret Cho, who will present the world premiere of her brand new show Beautiful in Australia.

Meanwhile Hats Off and The Stars Come Out have combined this year to create an HIV/AIDS fundraising event featuring air stewardess Pam Ann, who will perform for one night only at the Lyric Theatre on February 22nd.

Mardi Gras 2008 organisers will also open their own gallery at Tap Gallery this year where they will showcase publicity material from the last thirty years of Mardi Gras, as well as work from local artists.

William Yang will be exhibiting his work Claiming China at the Australia Centre For Photography in Paddington and much-loved Sydney icon Mazz will be presenting her one woman slide show A Night With Mazz at Slide.
