12 December 2007Huckabee in hot water over AIDS isolation comments 3 The mother of Ryan White has requested a little one-on-one time with Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee after he told reporters this weekend that he stands by past comments suggesting AIDS patients should have been "isolated."Jeanne White-Ginder is the mother of the Indiana teen who raised awareness about AIDS in the early 1980s when he contracted the disease from the blood-clotting agent used to treat his hemophilia. -
12 December 2007Gay-themed movie sparks lawsuit 3 An Australian production company is in a legal battle against a the producers of I Now Pronounce You Chuck And Larry, an American comedy about two firemen who pretend to be gay to claim benefits from the government.The producers of Strange Bedfellows accused actor and film producer Adam Sandler and his company Happy Madison of ripping off the plot of a 2004 film, where two men passed themselves off as a gay couple to obtain legal benefits. -
12 December 2007Help for friends and family of HIV+ people from THT + HIV and sexual health charity, Terrence Higgins Trust (THT), is running a new workshop in Sussex aimed at the friends and family of those living with HIV.The one day workshop is being trialled on 1 March in central Brighton but the charity is keen to get people signed up as soon as possible.The Friends Family workshop will act as a starting point for anyone who has found out that a friend or family member is HIV+. -
12 December 2007Runners raise money to fight homophobic bullying + London Frontrunners has raised almost £3500 to support Stonewall's work tackling homophobic bullying in schools.Helen Smethurst and Graham Kennedy, presidents of capital's leading lesbian and gay running group, presented the gay charity a cheque for £3,457 to help Stonewall continue its Education for All campaigning work in schools.The money was raised by London Frontrunners through its sponsorship of the 4th London Pride Run held in August. -

12 December 2007Harvey Milk biopic attracts star interest + Principal photography on a biopic of San Francisco gay activist Harvey Milk will begin in January with Sean Penn in the lead role, and several well-known young actors are rumoured to be taking roles in the film.Josh Brolin, star of the upcoming Coen brothers film No Country for Old Men, is in last-minute negotiations with director Gus Van Sant about the role of Dan White, Milk's assassin.James Franco, best known for his role in the Spiderman films, is slated to play Milk's longterm partner Scott Smith. -

12 December 2007Tory MEPs disrupt Euro treaty ceremony 3 EU leaders signed the Charter of Fundamental Rights today as some MEPs including Tories loudly protested, asking for a referendum on the reformed treaty.During the ceremony in Strasbourg protesters shouted as Portuguese Prime Minister Jose Socrates, whose country currently holds the European Union's rotating presidency, was speaking."No matter how loud you heckle and yell, today is a day of fundamental importance for Europe," he said.
