Pimp C, one half the rap duo UGK (Underground Kingz), was found dead in a Hollywood hotel room on Tuesday.

The rapper, whose real name is Chad Butler, was 33. Early reports from authorities indicate the rapper may have died of natural causes.

Pimp C was known as much for his foul mouth and anti-gay commentary as for his pioneering ‘Southern’ rap.

According to a report on VillageVoice.com, Los Angeles fireman responded to a 911 call early Tuesday morning at a the Mondrian Hotel in Hollywood.

Pimp C was found dead lying in a bed in his hotel room. He had performed on Saturday evening with rapper Too $hort at the House of Blues in Los Angeles.

Initial results of a police investigation into Pimp C’s death indicate he may posibbly have died of natural causes.

Captain Ed Winter of the Los Angeles County coroner’s office said Butler had apparently died in bed and “at this time there’s no signs of foul play.”

According to the Associated Press, Winter stated: “It appears to be possibly natural, but pending autopsy and toxicology we can’t say the cause.”

Chad Butler, known by the musical moniker of Pimp C, was one half of the hit rap group UGK.

He and his rap partner Bun B started their career together in 1992 with Jive Records.

Pimp C collaborated with such big name rap stars as Jay-Z and Outkast. UGK’s most recent release debuted at number one on the album pop chart.

Pimp C was known as much for his love of using foul language and spewing hateful commentary as for his music.

Earlier this year, Pimp C launched a gay-bashing tirade against several musical celebrities in Ozone magazine.

In the article, the rapper called Def Jam co-founder Russell Simmons “ol’ dick-in-the-booty” and RB star Ne-Yo an “Old Gay Ass.”

The rapper later issued a statement somewhat rescinding his homophobic comments, at least about music mogul Russell Simmons.

According to Stereohyped.com, Pimp C said his comments about Simmons “had nothing to do with his sexual orientation. It had more to do with a disagreement [we had]. I don’t know if the man likes Martians, squirrels or whatever, so I ain’t gonna speak on something that I didn’t see.

“It’s no gay-bashing with me. It’s just, be proud of what you are, instead of hidin’ in the closet.

“And if ya f*** boys in the ass, then don’t be tryna f*** with the girls, too, poisoning the pussy population wit’ ya shitty ol’ dirty-ass dick.”

Pimp C was sentenced to eight years in prison in 2002 for failing to complete community service stemming from assault charges.

He was released in 2005 on parole after completing half his sentence.

UGK was enjoying a surge in success from their latest self-titled two disc set, their first product since Pimp C’s prison sentence. UGK received two awards at BET’s Hip Hop Awards for their recent work.

“He will be remembered for his talent and profound influence as a pioneer in bringing southern rap to the forefront,” Jive president and CEO Barry Weiss said in a statement to the press today.
