This is exactly the type of hate crime that deserves protection under the new law being considered. I don’t care if people utter anti-gay slurs but what I do care about is language that incites people to commit such heinous crimes based on a person’s sexual orientation perceived or otherwise.

  2. Indeed we do need protection – unfortunately the proposed legislation only (so far) covers sexuality not gender identity or expression. I am so sad to read of this woman’s murder barely a week after our International Transgender Day Of Remembrance Vigil in Manchester, which had over 400 names on the list of the deceased.

  3. Any case like Kellie’s just reminds me how vulnerable we are. I am a TS like her and live with my girlfriend knowing that everytime we go out, the only thing that acts as a deterrent to would-be attackers is a “Hate Crime Reporting Pack”-paperwork WE have to fill in after a crime against us. What kind of legislation is that?

  4. R.I.P. Kellie.I hope they catch these murderers see that justice is done.I hope that oneday we will not need special laws to protect us. People should not be subject to vicious attacks just because they are different, or for any reason but in the meantime transgendered people should be included in any new bill to protect minorities from such harm.I don’t want to lose another sister or brother like this again.
