Following on from a hugely successful collection in 2006, which raised a record-breaking £120,000, Theatrecares is soon to launch their 2007 World AIDS Week Theatre Bucket Collection Appeal, again fronted by stage and screen stars John Barrowman and Connie Fisher.

Each year, the vast majority of West End theatres participate in the appeal, which is reliant on the goodwill and support of actors, theatre management, crew and producers.

In 2006, the Lyceum alone (home to Disney’s The Lion King) raised over £13,000 and, for the first time, over 25 regional theatres joined in with the collections.

Theatrecares is aiming to involve even more theatres this year and achieve an even bigger total.

John Barrowman, who is set to host an upcoming Cinderella gala, said: “I have been involved with Theatrecares for a few years now and feel very passionate about the work that they do; it’s exciting for me to be part of their events this year.

“Please dig deep for our World AIDS Day Appeal. Saturday 24th November to Sunday 2nd December – remember those dates – go to the theatre and drop money in their buckets.”

The special gala fund-raising performance of Stephen Fry’s new Cinderella will be held at the Old Vic Theatre on Friday 7th December.

Organised by a legion of theatrical Fairy Godmothers and Fairy Godfathers, the event will begin with a pre-performance gala champagne and canape reception followed by a performance of the Old Vic’s new production of Cinderella written by celebrated actor, comedian, novelist and director, Stephen Fry.

After the show, guests will be joined by members of the production’s cast and creative team for an exclusive post show party during which there will be an auction of glittering prizes.

Tickets cost between £60 and £220 with all proceeds going to Theatrecares.
