I have been approaching Mr Rudd iver the last couple of months since he started his website, in regards to Transgender issues. Today Mr Rudd nor any of his staff have replied to me with any comments at all. The local labour hopefull said this in an email to me,Hi SamanthaNot sure of answer to these question but think they will be put in the too hard basket at the moment.RegardsJimJim TurnourFederal Labor Candidate for LeichhardtTo be honest I am a labour supporter personally, but it was the greens who took a proactive stance with the rights of transgender persons in previous elections.ThanksSamanthaCAIRNS QLD AUSTRALIA

In Australia conservatives dishonestly call themselves Liberals. Misleading people about their politics helps get them elected, a tactic ever more trendy in reactionary conservative factions. In line with that John Howard’s been teasing GLBT folk for a few weeks with hints that he might back down a little on his hard-right christian homobigotry and toss us a few bones. Last week he reneged and skulked back to the safety of his alliance with his conservative christian attack dogs, unleashing them on Labor. For years Howard’s government has routinely used gay bashing to get votes from totalitarian christians and as a wedge to undercut Labor and the Greens. Howard paid close attention while sitting on Bush’s lap being entertained with bedtime stories about Republican successes at bribing christians to drive wedges into the electorate with crude superstitious homobigotry. The pity of it all is that they’ve been successful. The centrist ALP leadership, like Democrats in the US, let fear of being identified as homophiles push them to the right – the ALP leadership’s opposition to samesex marriage is a glaring example. ——————————————————————————————-Samantha, are there any signs that the pro-socialist Left faction of the ALP is able to move the party towards more support for GLBT programs?

Really I dont know. Our small group has the following of a small number of transgender and partners of transgender persons. I have written to Mr Rudd, asked him specific questions, and todate seems we are not important enough. I agree that Howard is a pupet, and that old story what george bush does, I can do better. The way he is going – he will want all GLBT folk deported and / or burnt at the stake. So much for equality of all australians. I do hope that Ruddy, might realise that there are more to Australian voters other then stright. I know we supported the Greens in the last election due to there transgender policy.

As expected, the conservative leadersip of the ALP has capitualated to Howards use of christian attack dogs using samesex marriage as a wedge issue and endoresed the second class citizenship status of GLBT folks in Australia. Rudd is a disgrace. I hope the ‘left’ faction of the ALP can get rid of him before he leads the ALP to another defeat.

  5. Rudd needs to check out our trailer on Gay Marriage. It has a way of opening closed minds. It was produced to educate defuse the controversy: http://www.OUTTAKEonline.com Feel free to pass this link on to your friends colleagues….

  6. What a thoroughly nasty and wicked homophobe.Pell’s mindset seems to be stuck in the era when the Catholic Church happily:Burned Witches and Heretics.Burned people who were Protestant during the Reformation era.Murdered Indians in South America or forced them to convert under torture.Kept the slave trade alive and well.Killed and tortured thousands during the Spanish Inquisition. Now seem to condemn and encourage hatred and worse of Gay people. All this in the name of Jesus Christ and of course JUSTIFIED in the Bible!!What a nasty, wicked, evil and detestable man and religion.

  7. It always “amuses” me, that these hypocrytes tax LGBT people as highly as they do straights (though with fewer tax breaks etc), expect gay boys to go to war for them, and do not object when the the comforting hand is “queer”, but they demand the right to discriminate against us when nothing we want affects them in the slightest (except in their minds).

At least this nasty bigot has come out and actually said the Catholic church believes it is acceptable to discriminate against gay men and lesbians. It seems to me that religious representatives in England constantly claim they have no wish to discriminate and at the same time loudly demand a right to do so. This ridiculous argument that there are no parallels between the gay civil rights movement and the civil rights movement on race has been recently prominent in American politics. Their dissaproval and hatred of homosexuality is the most obvious thing that conservatives and “devout” Christians can demonstrate their traditional values with. They play to the worst in people, hatred and fear of what is alien. Conservative christian leaders like Pell are beyond contempt. They may hold strong beliefs but it beggars my belief how they are so lacking in empathy and how they contradict other professed fundamentals of their religions. He is after all a celibate. I guess that might make it hard to empathise with anything relating to love, sexuality, sexual behaviour and human fertility and procreation. He is probably the worlds least qualified person to pontificate on anything.

  9. Actually, that’s a good point. Is any church exempt from the Equality Act? Or are they breaking the law in some way..you know, denying goods and services, paricularly on, say, Sunday. Maybe i should make a pilgrimage to my local Mosque? But I digress.

Vauxhall Dave, I so agree with you. I believe Pell has a sister or niece who happens to be a lesbian. Pell at least is honest I’ll grant him that, but he also reveals the hypocrisy and bigotry of his own church. I’d like to see all of the prelates in the Vatican outed, there are hundreds of them and plenty of straight philanderers among them too. Its been going on since the early beginnings of the church, nothing has changed or ever will, as corrupt as ever.

  11. Pell has it all wrong.Gay is what someone is. Religion is what someone believes. It is therefore wrong to discriminate against against gay people in the same way as it is wrong to discriminate against someone who is black. Similarly it is acceptable to discriminate against someone who is religious in the same way as it is acceptable to discriminate against someone who is racist.I am heartily sick of people who on the basis of absolutely no evidence whatsoever believe in the existence of an omnipotent sky pixie and then try to shove their preposterous lifestyle down our throats.

During the anti-Franco struggles Spanish Anarchists* and POUMistas**, faced with the treachery of catholic cult priests gave them fair trials and then killed them. That was war and perfectly justified. Now, in somewhat more settled times, we needn’t be so harsh. It’ll be enough to confiscate their wealth without compensation, close their schools if they promote bigotry or other reactionary views, and force them to enter reeducation camps and to get productive jobs when they’re released. Unless of course they’ve encouraged violent, discriminatory or harassing behavior against GLBT folk or been convicted of boy rape. Then they should be dealt with harshly. *I’m speaking of course of real Anarchists, not the wet dream fantasies of cranky conservatives. ** The Workers’ Party of Marxist Unification (POUM; Spanish: Partido Obrero de Unificación Marxista; Catalan; Partit Obrer d’Unificació Marxista), a communist (trotskyist and antistalinist) party during the Spanish Second Republic, politically and militarily active around the time of the Spanish Civil War.

PellThis guy makes me feel sick!EqualityPELL wouldn’t even know what the word meant.CompassionPELL wouldn’t even know what the word meant. After my dealings with Pell, over another issue of abuse within his flock, he doesnt want to know, and basically ignored me…Why can’t someone be gay be a church going catholic, one who contributs to his lifestyle. One of his flock said”It ok for you to be transgender, because your in partnership with a biological female”As stated by another reader:Gay is a who you areReligion is a beliefIs so true… really in this day and age what is marriage. From observation within the community, the actual meaning of the word went out the window many many moons ago. These days it more accepted as being a comittment between 2 people.SamanthaFar North Qld Transgender Support Group
