6 November 2007Los Angeles LGBT workers to get protections after cop test case + In what has been called a "momentous" decision, the Los Angeles City Council voted unanimously last week to approve settlement of the non-damages portion of a lawsuit brought by former Sergeant Mitchell Grobeson, the LAPD's first openly gay officer.The settlement provides a vast array of protections for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) employees and job applicants in Los Angeles, as well as those living with HIV.It mandates recruitment from the LGBT community. -
6 November 2007European teams to compete in gay basketball tournament + The West Coast Classic III will be held over America's Martin Luther King public holiday weekend, January 19-20, 2008, the National Gay Basketball Association announced.Highlights of the tournament will include 20 teams from across the US and Europe competing in 3 men's divisions A, B and 35 plus and a women's division.The Memphis River City Champions, Spin-Freeze A and DC Sentinels B, and the host of last summer's European tournament, the London Cruisers, are all taking part. -

6 November 2007Homophobic Prime Minister of Poland leaves office + Jaroslaw Kaczynski has handed in the resignation of his cabinet, officially bringing an end to the Law and Justice-led government who had been in power in Poland since autumn 2005.Prime Minister Mr Kaczynski handed his resignation documents to his twin brother President Lech Kaczynski, during a ceremony at the Presidential Palace in Warsaw yesterday.His resignation follows his party's defeat in elections held last month.
