3:23 PM — Human Rights Watch has written to Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni asking his government to repeal its sodomy laws and end a long record of harassing lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people.Last week the country's deputy Attorney General Fred Ruhindi called for the criminal law to be used against lesbians and gays in Uganda."I call upon the relevant agencies to take appropriate action because homosexuality is an offence under the laws of Uganda," he said.
Homophobic reggae stars force concert coverage cancellation 1
2:56 PM — A New York radio station owned by media conglomerate Clear Channel has announced it will not broadcast a reggae concert as planned.The decision came after the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) called on Power 105, a hip-hop station, to cancel coverage of tomorrow's Reggae Carifest because homophobic performers Buju Banton and Bounty Killer are to perform.Banton's notorious 1990s hit Boom Bye Bye appears to incite the burning, shooting in the head and pouring acid over the faces of gay people.
Italy ready to grant asylum to Iranian lesbian 12
12:50 PM — A spokesperson for Italian government has confirmed that they will grant ayslum to a lesbian woman due to be deported from the UK to Iran.Pegah Emambakhsh is currently being detained by British officials and she is scheduled for repatriation on Tuesday.Her sexual orientation and her past life in Iran may lead to her being executed.

12:28 PM — Lawyers for a woman who is claiming that her gender reassignment surgery should be written off for tax purposes as a legitimate medical expense have questioned the credibility of a government witness.The US Internal Revenue Service contend that such surgery is not "essential" and therefore cannot be tax-free.Rhiannon O'Donnabhain, a 63-year-old former sailor, is having her case heard in Boston.

11:51 AM — South Australia's Treasurer, Kevin Foley, has been forced onto the back foot by attacks from the gay community over his use of derogatory language in a documentary.In the film, made by documentary maker Bob Ellis, he asks a member of staff, "Is that one of your poofter beers? F**king hell."Gay activists leapt on the comment as dangerous and inflammatory.Ghassan Kassisieh of the Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobby said: "It's not appropriate for someone in a position of leadership to be setting a tone for public debate that uses derogatory language."

11:34 AM — The proportion of American gay men calling for the right to marry their partners in a church is as low as 36 per cent, Community Marketing Inc.'s Gay Consumer Index has revealed.The study, which interviewed 12,044 gay men across America, claims to be the largest and most comprehensive of its kind. Survey participants were solicited through over 75 widely distributed internet and print publications.When asked if political leaders should "continue the fight for gay and lesbian marriage equality" only 36 per cent believed it should be a priority.

10:16 AM — By all means, out someone if he or she is a hypocrite; just don't call them gay. It is nothing short of a comical irony. Ted Haggard, the ex-televangelist, and once the self-appointed spokesperson for Jesus Christ, has all but disappeared from public attention.Only a few months ago, he was reviled not just by the gay community for his blatant homophobic preaching, but also by intelligent people at large for his inability to handle rational criticisms and arguments.
