24 August 2007Homophobic reggae stars force concert coverage cancellation 1 A New York radio station owned by media conglomerate Clear Channel has announced it will not broadcast a reggae concert as planned.The decision came after the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) called on Power 105, a hip-hop station, to cancel coverage of tomorrow's Reggae Carifest because homophobic performers Buju Banton and Bounty Killer are to perform.Banton's notorious 1990s hit Boom Bye Bye appears to incite the burning, shooting in the head and pouring acid over the faces of gay people. -
24 August 2007Ugandan leader asked to end gay harassment 5 Human Rights Watch has written to Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni asking his government to repeal its sodomy laws and end a long record of harassing lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people.Last week the country's deputy Attorney General Fred Ruhindi called for the criminal law to be used against lesbians and gays in Uganda."I call upon the relevant agencies to take appropriate action because homosexuality is an offence under the laws of Uganda," he said.
