22 August 2007Homphobic mayor sends mixed messages over gay tourism 2 Embattled Fort Lauderdale Mayor Jim Naugle, who has come under intense pressure from a US gay organisations for making insensitive and demoralising public comments about the gay and lesbian community, has been sending mixed messages as of late on his thoughts about gay tourism.A press release from Fight OUT Loud, a Fort Lauderdale based non-profit organisation dedicated to helping GLBT individuals fight discrimination and hate, shows Mayor Naugle voted just this year to increase spending on the gay tourism market. -

22 August 2007Doncaster’s first Pride event draws a crowd + More than a thousand people defied foul weather to take to the streets of Doncaster over the weekend to celebrate the Yorkshire town's first ever Pride.The event, organised by Doncaster Partnership Against Homophobia and Transphobia, was held in the Market Place.Revellers were treated to six hours of live performances as well speeches from local police and council representatives.There were also fairground rides and a busy market. -
22 August 2007Football gay liaison officers start training 1 A day of training and consultation for volunteer liaison officers who will work with football clubs across England to stamp out homophobia was held last week at The Valley, home of Charlton Athletic.The new football season started earlier this month and for the first time homophobic abuse is against the rules in every Premier League and Football League club.The new regime is part of the Football Association's commitment to tackling homophobic abuse at all levels of the game.
