Irish president warns of link between anti-gay bullying and suicide 2
5:10 PM — Irish President Mary McAleese today called for a national change in attitudes to end the bullying of gay people in Ireland.Addressing world experts at the International Association of Suicide Prevention Conference in Killarney, the President said the link between sexual identity and suicide had to be addressed.She also warned gay people encounter a hurtful undercurrent of bias and hostility.
US bishops join Kenyan church in gay protest 2
5:10 PM — A pair of American bishops have joined Kenya's conservative Anglican Church after the U.S. Episcopal Church consecrated an openly gay bishop.William Murdoch of Massachusetts and Bill Atwood of Texas were consecrated at All Saints Cathedral in Nairobu by Kenya's Archbishop Benjamin Nzimbi.Although they will answer to the Kenyan Church, they will continue to serve in the U.S.
Chicago Anglican church branch nominates lesbian for bishop 26
5:10 PM — A branch of the Anglican church in Chicago has nominated an openly lesbian priest, Rev, Tracey Lind, as a candidate to replace current Chicago Bishop William Persell.The Episcopal Diocese of Chicago has included Rev. Lind as one of five nominees for bishop, as fellow Anglicans demand that the church bar gay bishops.
Iowa court rules that same-sex couples can marry
5:10 PM — A district court in US state of Iowa has ruled in favour of same-sex marriage.In response to a lawsuit brought by six same-sex couples seeking to wed, Judge Robert Hanson wrote in the ruling:"Couples, such as plaintiffs, who are otherwise qualified to marry one another may not be denied licenses to marry or certificates of marriage or in any other way prevented from entering into a civil marriage pursuant to Iowa Code Chapter 595 by reason of the fact that both persons compromising such a couple are of the same sex."
Bishop claims floods are punishment for gay rights 6
11:01 AM — The Rt Rev Graham Dow, the Bishop of Carlisle, has shocked the liberal wing of the Church of England by suggesting that the floods that have caused chaos and death across the UK were caused by God after he was provoked by the introduction of gay equality."This is a strong and definite judgment because the world has been arrogant in going its own way," he said. "We are reaping the consequences of our moral degradation, as well as the environmental damage that we have caused."
