29 June 2007Bomb found on London Pride route 5 A car bomb discovered on the route of tomorrow's Gay Pride parade in London has been made safe, say police.The vehicle was parked on Haymarket, in the heart of the city's West End shopping and theatre district.Reports of a suspicious vehicle at around 2am led police to what they call a "potentially viable explosive device." -
29 June 2007Pride organisers hopeful parade will go ahead 5 Pride officials had an early start this morning, with Metropolitan Police officers phoning them before 6am to discuss the discovery of a suspected bomb on the parade route.The area is still closed off as officers from the Counter Terrorism Command continue their investigations.It is unclear at this stage whether tomorrow's parade will go ahead. -

29 June 2007Lesbian coach sues school over dismissal + The former head coach of the Fresno State University Bulldog Volleyball team, Lindy Vivas, is suing the school for $4.1 million (£2m) for a firing that she says was part of a discrimination campaign against lesbians and women in general.In 2002, she was honoured as the WAC Coach of the Year.Testimony began earlier this month in a civil case against the school, and now school officials are taking the stand to rebut her discrimination theories. -

29 June 2007Bomb on Pride route contained nails 5 In a chilling reminder of the attack on Soho eight years ago, the Metropolitan police have confirmed that nails were packed with gas cannisters found in an abandoned car this morning.The vehicle was crashed and then abandoned on Haymarket in central London, part of the route for tomorrow's London Pride parade.There was concern that the entire Pride event, including performances in Trafalgar Square and Leicester Square, would have to be cancelled. -
29 June 2007Tales of the City author to appear at London Pride + Gay icon Armistead Maupin is to take to the stage at tomorrow's London Pride event in Trafalgar Square.The author, whose Tales of the City books about gay life in 1970s and 80s San Francisco have been compared to the work of Dickens, is making a special trip to show solidarity with London's gay community.Mr Maupin's latest book, Michael Tolliver Lives, was published earlier this month. -

29 June 2007Ugandan minister upset by emails from gay people 1 A homophobic politician in Uganda has branded LGBT people who have sent him hate emails 'sick' and accused them of using 'foul language.'James Nsaba Buturo, the state minister of Ethics and Integrity, told the Daily Monitor that he gets at least twenty threatening emails a day, mostly from people in the US and UK.Gay sex is punishable in Uganda by life imprisonment, under laws originally introduced by the British. -
29 June 2007Thai transvestites call for hotel boycott + A gay rights group in Thailand is calling for a boycott of the Novotel hotel chain, after door staff refused a transvestite entry to their nightclub.Rallying under around the slogan, "Novotel - No Homosexual", the campaign is being led by the Bangkok Rainbow Organisation.They are urging gays, lesbians and katoeys, or ladyboys, to stay away from the hotel. -
