Dead man’s father questions police actions in Barrymore case 5
5:22 PM — The father of the young man found dead at Michael Barrymore's house six years ago has spoken of his disappointment over the way the case has been handled by Essex police.Meat factory worker Stuart Lubbock was found dead in Barrymore's swimming pool after a party in March 2001.In June 2001 Barrymore and two other men were arrested and bailed in connection with the incident.
London Assembly urge Moscow to respect human rights
4:53 PM — Representatives of the people of London from all political parties have joined forces to urge the Mayor of Moscow to lift the ban on the city's Gay Pride parade.A motion proposed by openly gay Green Assembly member Darren Johnson was passed unanimously.Last month Russian activists and supporters from other European countries were attacked by a homophobic mob as they attempted to deliver a letter to the Moscow Mayor protesting at his ban on gay Pride events.
Green coalition will bring progress on gay marriage
4:32 PM — Bertie Ahern will be sworn in as Taoiseach, or Prime Minister of the Republic of Ireland, today after the Green Party agreed to join a coalition government under his leadership.The formation of a new administration follows weeks of negotiations among the country's political parties.The Taoiseach is committed to bringing forward legislation to recognise same-sex relationships.
Camp YouTube performer gets network attention 1
3:40 PM — A 23-year-old gay man who has been broadcasting his views on fashion and gay life on the website YouTube has been offered a deal by a major US TV network.William Sledd, who lives in Kentucky and used to work as a manager at a Gap clothes store, has not revealed any details of what sort of work NBC want him to do.His "Ask A Gay Man" series of video clips have become something of a cult hit on YouTube, with over 50,000 subscribers.
75% of Brighton gays have suffered abuse
2:32 PM — Research into the levels of homophobia on the streets of the UK's gayest city has revealed that three-quarters of gay, lesbian, bisexual or trans residents have been on the receiving end of physical or verbal abuse in the last five years.900 of the estimated 35,000 LGBT residents of Brighton and Hove took part in the Count Me In Too report by the University of Brighton and Spectrum LGBT forum.
Gays and religious opponents to march on the same day
2:21 PM — Police in the Israeli city of Jerusalem have given the go-ahead for a gay Pride march in the city next Thursday and a counter-demonstration by orthodox Jews on the same day.The gay Pride event will move through the centre of the city and finish with a party in a park.More than 7,000 police officers will be on duty to make sure that both events pass of peacefully. The religious protest will take place on the outskirts of the city.
Michael Barrymore arrested on suspicion of murder 5
12:32 PM — Three men have been arrested by police investigating the death of Stuart Lubbock at the house of former TV star Michael Barrymore in 2001.The Daily Mail reports that Mr Barrymore is one of men being held by police. Two other men, aged 32 and 37, have also been arrested.Mr Lubbock's suspicious death ruined the career of Barrymore, who came out as a gay man in 1995.
Gay couple adoption splits Australian opinion 3
12:15 PM — The news that a gay male couple have adopted a baby has been welcomed by lawmakers in the state of Western Australia.Neither the couple or the mother of the child have been named, though it is understood the mother was consulted and approved of the adoption of her child by two gay men.It is the first same-sex couple adoption in Australia.

Ireland’s HIV infection rate up 45%
11:22 AM — 80 men who have sex with men were diagnosed as HIV positive in 2006, figures from Ireland's Gay Men's Health Project have revealed.The 2006 figure represents a increase of 45% on 2005 infections. Three-quarters of new cases are over 30 years old.The group are meeting today in Dublin Castle to consider strategies, to discuss best practice and to get advice from international experts.Junior health minister Sean Power opened proceedings.
L Word star highlights gay teen homelessness
11:00 AM — Gay and lesbian homelessness among youth is now considered an epidemic in the US, according to the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force.OurChart, he lesbian version of MySpace which takes its name from TV drama The L Word, is doing their part to focus some attention on the problem.The site has created a unique documentary, called My Address: A Look at Gay Youth Homelessness. The series features Katherine Moennig, who plays Shane on The L Word.
