Well, well, well, he’s certainly changes his tune hasn’t he? Seems like only yesterday he was slamming poor old “Saint Peter” for being a great big homo in the notorious North Southwark Bermondsey by-election in 1983, where the now gay (but not then), “straight choice” candidate vilified poor old Saint Peter over his sexuality.Perhaps Simon should consider changing his name to Pete Tong with the number of times he changes his tunes.

  2. What a load of oblox from Mary Clarence there!First in trotting out a revisionist meaning to the Libs’ “straight choice” headline used in election after election around the country in those days, regardless who was standing. Liberal homophobia in the byelection is a long-trounced claim, and it only seems to be flagged up by people who are trying to cover up their guilt over the Labour campaign in Bermondsey by trying to move the focus of attention elsewhere.Second in trotting out that Simon is “gay” when of course, as this very site reflected at the time, he isn’t. He’s not straight either, but the one no more implies the other than someone not being Mexican proves they must be Chinese.
