London will stage gay World Cup

London is to be home to the footballing gay world cup in 2008, it has emerged.

The International Gay and Lesbian Football Association (IGLFA) is to hold their world championship at Leftfooters FC in London next August.

Leftfooters FC, a gay football club based in Regent’s Park, have been working with the Football Association for the past two years.

They have supported the FA’s continuing efforts through their “Football for All” campaign to stamp out homophobia in British football.

The FA will provide technical support for the tournament, and will help to recruit match officials and volunteers for the biggest gay sporting event ever hosted in the UK.

Up to 50 teams from across the world will apply to the tournament. According to fgmag.com there will be up to 1,000 players and spectators.

The knock-out stages will take place in Regent’s Park, and Leyton Orient’s Matchroom Stadium will host the finals.

There will also be recreational tournaments for both men and women.
