Stonewall today launched a guide to the new goods and services protections for LGB people.

Sponsored by Lloyds TSB, the gay equality organisation has published 300,000 postcard-sized ‘image-heavy text-light’ guides.

The 12-page booklets advise lesbian, gay and bisexual people that “If something is offered, you can have it, whatever the colour of your money.”

Ben Summerskill, Stonewall chief executive, said:

“These protections will make a practical difference to the lives of millions of gay people.”

“The days of gay people being denied basic services such as healthcare or turned away by businesses like hotels, are over.”

“We want to ensure everyone is aware of these changes in the law and provide answers to some of the practical questions that people have”.

Mike Fairey, Deputy Group Chief Executive at Lloyds TSB, said:

“Lloyds TSB’s support of Stonewall’s guide to the new protections for gay people reflects our commitment to addressing the interests of our lesbian, gay and bisexual staff, customers and the wider community we serve.

“We are proud to be able to demonstrate our commitment through our work with Stonewall.”

Stonewall was at the forefront of the parliamentary campaign to win passage of the Equality Act (Sexual Orientation) Regulations 2007 which came into effect on 30 April.

The guide will be available from libraries, lesbian and gay venues, Citizens Advice offices and community groups across Britain.

A web version is available at www.stonewall.org.uk .
