Birmingham organisers are preparing for Pride celebrations this weekend.

Kicking off the weekend is XXL Bear Pride Birmingham, the only Bear Pride event in the Midlands. The night at Club DV8 features a set from XXL resident DJ Christian M, as well as free CD giveaways and other surprises on the night.

On Saturday, the Pride warm-up will begin. The Pride Community Village will boast outside bars and catering, a funfair, a marketplace, craft stalls and more, plus a new Over 18s area. Admission to the Village is free.

On Sunday a range of live music is on offer, from midday until late night. Headlining the Gaydar/Nightingale stage are ABBA tribute favourites Bjorn Again, as well as a performance from Eurovision contestants Scooch.

The Women’s Stage features performances from Ali Wright and Tara Simms, followed by a wet t-shirt competition sponsored by Gaydar Girls and topped off with sets from DJ Hannah, DJ Cell Block AKA Gail and DJ Roq Biatch.

Whilst performances on the Cabaret Stage have yet to be confirmed, Tricky Dicky’s Over-18’s Stage features adult performances from 3pm onwards.

Other club nights are due to take place in Birmingham around Pride. The Nightingale Club will feature appearances from Rogue Traders on Friday, Liberty X on Saturday, and X-Factor contestant Ray Quinn on Sunday.

Tricky Dicky’s also boasts a range of music and entertainment, including Bucks Fizz on Saturday, a Kylie Minogue Tribute on Sunday, and a George Michael Tribute on Sunday.

On Monday, The Greenhouse in Darlaston will hold its Pride Party, offering a free buffet and champagne, games, music and adult entertainment.

At Club Hidden, Duckie and David Hoyle present what they describe as a ‘pop and performance playpen’, featuring Amy Lame, inspired by their childhood struggles with homosexuality.

Arts events are also running over the weekend. The Queer Arts Fest presents several exhibitions this year, including aRTpRIDE at The Fox from Friday 26th May until Tuesday 26th June, and Out Of The Shadows at AB+ from 8th May until 15th June.
