Rainbow Awards to honour Welsh heroes

Cardiff-Wales Mardi Gras is to hold its first award ceremony, celebrating people who have made the event a success or have fought homophobia.

The city’s Mardi Gras attracts around 40,000 visitors and is the second largest free lesbian and gay event in the UK.

There will be six awards for the great and good of Wales, one for every colour of the Rainbow flag.

The categories are:

Most Positive Role Model, Best New Friend of Mardi Gras, Community Spirit, Scene Personality, The Safer Wales Award and Lifetime achievement award.

Nominations include TV producer Russell T Davies and Torchwood star John Barrowman.

The awards will include dinner and drinks, a free glass of champagne and dancing to a live big band.

They will be held on May 6th 2007, at Holland House Hotel in Cardiff. All profits from the evening will go towards the funding of the main event on September 1 2007.

Tickets are on sale at £50 for a single ticket, or £450 for a table of 10 , and can be bought by sending cheques payable to Safer Wales Ltd to Safer Wales offices at 113-116 Bute Street, Butetown, Cardiff, CF10 5EQ or by visiting the same address with cash payment.
