This looks like a true apology to me. One of the nicest I seen. Anyone can make a mistake. If someone is truely sorry I think we should forgive and forget.Jesse

Barr did at least have the courtesy to apologise for her recent homophobic tirade against ‘narcisstic’ gays and lesbians, acknowledging that her portrayl of a selfish LGBT movement distinterested in environment, social justice or poverty was incorrect, untrue and uttered in a fit of pique. Barr even invited LGBT people to email her and receive a personal apology, along with an explanation of her considered political views – which are left-liberal (Barr is on the left of the Democratic Party). This was a noble gesture. But Barr should also be credited for making her comments – not because they reflect reality (far from it), but because they shed light on the sinister homophobic mythologies and prejudices that have gone unchecked on the poltical left – our traditional allies. If you don’t believe me, take a look at the homophobic vitriol that regularly appears on supposedly progressive newswires such as Indymedia UK, or the nasty, personal attacks that are flung at LGBT activists such as Peter Tatchell on the Guardian’s “Comment is Free” weblogs. Tatchell is a good example of the way some of the left can turn – when he (quite rightly, in my opinion) campaigned against the Iraq War, for a minimum wage and against animal vivisection most were quite happy to have him along. But when he gently criticised some scared cows of the left (Palestine, Cuba, Mugabe, Sacrane et al), they turned on him with the most personal, vicious crude anti-gay polemics I have ever had the misfortune to read. The level of hate was easily comparable to that of the far right – perhaps more objectionable, as the left tradition should know so much better. Read up on the litany of leftist homophobic incidents in Simon Edge’s 1996 polemic “With Friends Like These” (Cassell). This is out of print but your local LGBT or radical bookstore should be able to turn up a copy. Edge also provides a good analysis of why the traditional left has such a double edged attitude towards women and LGBT’s, expecting us to leap to join their particular cause du jour, and turning plain nasty if we say “no thanks, we’re going to do our own campaigns”.

Roseanne SAYS: “I love gays and I hate division. I am just a big idiot with a big mouth sometimes. I will learn to be more careful! Please forgive me, I am so sorry!!!!****************************************************************************DOMINICK SAYS: I don’t accept your apology Ms Roseanne and yes you are an idiot with a BIG mouth! I am so sick and tired of celebrity being irresponsible with the words and helping to flame the torches of all homophobes and then say “I’m sorry, please forgive me!” What are you a freaking child?? Children can get away with crap like that because they don’t know any better or understand what it is they have said, and it is accepted to forgive them and teach them at the same time. But adults? Not on your life madam. That jerk from Seinfeld should never be allowed to step on a stage again or appear in another TV program for his flaming remarks to African Americans, that moron Don Imus should be fired and never again allowed to be near another radio station, and so should be fired too! You dishonored all Gays and disgraced them with your flippant stupid tirade. What in the world makes you think you can just say I’m sorry and all is forgiven. Your tired words are out there. Choke on them! Dominick J. Di Notodominick@sonic.net
