5 February 2007Sir Ian launches LGBT History Month 3 Lord of the Rings star Sir Ian McKellen was the guest of honour at the launch of the third Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans History Month in central London on Saturday.Organised by the LGBT education campaigning group, Schools Out, the annual event was initiated in 2005 as their first major project after the repeal of the controversial Section 28 five years earlier.Schools Out has been campaigning for lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans equality in education since 1974. -

5 February 2007American public want gays in the military + A new poll of Americans has revealed that nearly half do not support the current US military policy of barring openly gay people from serving.The Harris Interactive survey, conducted last month, found that 55% of the 2,337 people questioned felt openly gay, bisexual or lesbian personnel should be allowed to serve, reports the Wall Street Journal.
