Homophobic teen gang attack Jersey couple
Police on the island of Jersey have arrested three teenagers after two men were attacked by a gang in the centre of St Helier at the weekend.
The men, both in their 30s, were first verbally assaulted by the mob at around midnight on Sunday night, reports the Jersey Evening Post.
Around half an hour later their paths crossed that of the gang again, and after more anti-gay verbal abuse from the teenagers, there was a confrontation.
One of the men was punched to the ground and repeatedly kicked.
The police arrested three of the gang at the scene.
They are reported to be around 16-years-old, and girls as well as boys are members of the gang involved in the homophobic attack.
The victim suffered injuries to his back and face, the Post reports.
In December 2005 a schoolboy took Jersey to the European Court of Human Rights because the island had different ages of consent for gay and straight sexual relationships.
On 12th January 2007 the government of Jersey equalised the age of consent to 16 for homosexual acts, bringing the island into line with the UK.
