Muslims urged to join protest against “deviants”

Evangelical Christians will be joined on their protest march on Parliament on January 9th by leading members of the Muslim community.

Earlier this week, a group of Christian lawyers announced their intention to petition the Queen and protest at the Palace of Westminster to show their opposition to the proposed regulations to outlaw discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation in the provision of goods and services.

The Daily Mail reports today that Dr Majid Katme, of the Islamic Medical Association, has asked Muslims to join the protest, which is being held at the same time as a House of Lords debate on the new regulations.

Dr Katme has written to imans and supporters, asking them to, “join our Christian friends in their campaign against the new proposed law on sexual orientation.

“It is against our religious rights and against our human rights and against our conscience and religious beliefs to have this new unjust law forced on all of us British Muslims.”

Later on in the letter he describes LGBT people as deviants, and implies that the new regulations, which are designed merely to outlaw discrimination, have some power over employment issues:

“[the new rules require] Muslims and Christian believers legally to accept and appoint homosexuals or anyone with any sexual deviation in our Muslim institutions and centres, mosques, schools, clubs, companies, hotels, business, shops etc.”

The unusual combination of hardline Christians and Muslims will hold what is billed as a torchlight parade in Westminster next Wednesday.

It is being organised by the Lawyers Christian Fellowship, who state on their website that their aim is, “witnessing to the gospel by seeking justice for the oppressed and supporting Christian lawyers overseas as they uphold righteousness.”
