9 January 2006Lords uphold anti-discrimination laws 1 An attempt by an Irish peer to rescind the Sexual Orientation Regulations has failed.The House of Lords voted 199 to 68 to retain the regulations, which protect lesbian, gay and bisexual people against discrimination when accessing goods and services.The Lords vote was a defeat for Christian and Muslim protesters. -

10 January 2006Sony launches gay music label + Sony Music has launched the first major music label dedicated to nurturing lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans-gendered artists.The label, to be known as 'Music with a Twist', is a joint venture with a new gay media company, Wilderness, led by Matt Farber, the founder of MTV's gay entertainment channel, LOGO, which reaches 20 million homes across the USA.'Music With a Twist' will collaborate with Sony's other labels to cross promote gay artists with mainstream appeal. -
11 January 2006Gay police officers face homophobia from Christians and Muslims 15 Gay police officers are facing "faith based" homophobia from colleagues, the Gay Police Association (GPA) claims.The GPA claims that its 24-hour help line has received a 75 per cent increase in calls and warns that much of this is caused by homophobia from Christian and Muslim officers.Vic Codling, the GPA's national co-ordinator told Police Review that there were 14 cases last year of so-called "faith based" homophobia. -

17 January 2006Outrage at lack of respect for gay campaigner 3 Gay rights group, Outrage, is accusing a prominent member of George Galloway's Respect Party, of encouraging homophobia and violence against leader, Peter Tatchell.In his column in Asian weekly entertainment newspaper, Desi Xpress, Adam Yosef denounced Mr Tatchell as a "bigot" who "needs a good slap in the face." Yosef urges the Australian-born activist and his "queer campaign army" to "pack their bent bags and head back to Australia".
