A gynaecologist who underwent a gender transition earlier this year has raised £1,800 for her clinic after auctioning her bow ties.

Celia Macleod, worked at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn Norfolk since 1982 as Colin Bone, she was known for her bow tie collection.

Around 80 of the accessories were auctioned along with a cheese and wine evening to raise funds for the clinic.

The presentation was made at the Denver Ward of the hospital, Miss Macleod said the money would be used to raise awareness of ovarian cancer, Lynn News reports.

Last September, Ms Macleod completed £50,000 of medical treatment which included hormones, laser hair removal and voice coaching.

She was supported by her wife of 35 years, Gloria, and 28-year-old son, Alan.

She said: “I hope my patients recognise that it doesn’t matter whether I am wearing a suit and a bow tie or a skirt and a blouse.

“With gender dysphoria young people will kill themselves sometimes because of the difficulties in facing who they are and if there is anything about me being seen in the public eye, perhaps a young person can know that there is a way forward, then that is really good.”
