Police appeal after homophobic assault

Westminster police are appealing for witnesses following an assault in the early hours of last Wednesday morning.

At approximately 0300 hrs on 01/11/06, two male victims in their early twenties were walking along Tottenham Court Road, near Hanway Street, when they were approached by three men.

After making homophobic comments, one of the men struck one victim in the face with a rubber or plastic axe-like object before punching him whilst another of the men attacked his partner. The suspects then fled in the direction of Goodge Street.

The victims were treated at UCH.

One of the assailants is described as white, early to mid-twenties, with untidy collar length blond hair and of slim build. He was wearing dark clothes.

His friends are also described as being white, in their early to mid-twenties, slim to athletic build and wearing dark clothing.

Police are appealing for anyone who was in the vicinity of Tottenham Court Road and may have seen this incident or the group of men prior to, or after the assault, to contact them on 020 7321 9388, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
