MoD defends gay attitudes report
12:00 AM — The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has been quick to defend a survey which reveals discomfort is still felt towards gay and lesbian recruits served in the Royal Navy, particularly the Marines.A survey from the MoD on attitudes in the forces found that almost half of sergeants, corporals and lower ranked personnel in the Royal Navy and the Marines feel uncomfortable serving alongside gays and lesbians.
Gay rugby stars pose to tackle sport homophobia 57
12:00 AM — The Metropolitan Police are to launch a poster campaign in a bid to encourage homophobic hate crime reporting.The posters, which will be distributed to gay venues as well as sports centres, will be run in partnership with the Rugby Football Union and bear the slogan "help is kick hate crime into touch'.
Gay and lesbian jobseekers welcome Stonewall guide
12:00 AM — Students and employers welcomed Stonewall's lesbian and gay recruitment guide last night.Representatives from large organisations such as Goldman Sachs, the Metropolitan Police and the Royal Navy helped make up a 135 strong crowd of employers who eagerly took questions from around 50 lesbian and gay students keen to know about gay friendly workplaces.
Sexual health fears after fake condom discovery
12:00 AM — Medical watchdog the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has seized 17 packets of counterfeit condoms in Hounslow, prompting a warning about fake condom use in London.SSL International plc, the legitimate manufacturer of the Durex Extra Safe condoms is now cooperating with the MHRA to remove the counterfeit products from the market.
Jerusalem gay march tension grows 23
12:00 AM — Jerusalem police are considering cancelling the WorldPride gay march as protest grows, according to reports.Ultra-Orthodox Jews have threatened "holy-war" against the march and have called on all Jewish people to oppose the parade using biblical punishments, prompting police to deploy extra officers to protect marchers.But Israeli paper Arutz Sheva reports that this is a sign that they may cancel the parade if it proves too hard to police.
Campaigners to protest ‘ex-gay’ therapy group
12:00 AM — Gay rights group Truth Wins Out will join a coalition of spiritual and civil rights groups in Orlando to protest the National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality's (NARTH) annual conference this month.The theme of the demonstration and on-site press conference will be "Countering the Quacks" and will feature large inflatable ducks, duck whistles and a Donald Duck character.
Gay pride row fireman reinstated 5
12:00 AM — A fire-fighter who was demoted for refusing to distribute leaflets at a gay pride event has been reinstated after an appeal.Brian Herbert was reprimanded along with eight colleagues who abstained from Pride Scotia in June where they were supposed to be distributing fire safety leaflets.All the officers were ordered to undergo diversity training and Mr Herbert initially had his salary cut.
