Brighton and Hove is officially the most popular place in the country to host civil partnership ceremonies after the 600th ceremony was conducted over the weekend.

On Saturday, 30th September Bruce Gibson, 52 and Nas Badshah, 45 became the 600th couple to register their partnership.

“I was so shocked when we found out we were to be the 600th ceremony,” Bruce told PinkNews.co.uk. “I intended it to be a quiet affair, if I can use the word ‘affair’ so soon after being married! Being the 600th has made the day all the more memorable.”

“We’re just so proud that Brighton has made it to 600,” added Nas, who runs a Spanish Villa rental agency in the city with his new husband.

The milestone puts Brighton ahead of anywhere else in the country when it comes to civil partnership registrations. The second most popular region is Westminster, which celebrated its 500th ceremony in September.

“The entire team at Brighton and Hove Register Office is immensely proud and privileged to have reached our 600th ceremony in just 9 months,” said City Registrar Trevor Love. “This is a huge achievement and we are thrilled that couples are choosing Brighton Hove as the place they want to tie the knot.”

The happy couple, who have been together for 26 years, were presented with a bottle of champagne at the ceremony to mark the occasion. They both thanked Stonewall for their hard work in achieving the civil partnership change to the law.
