Cheggers plays homophobe in Extras

Gay icon Keith Chegwin is to star as a foul-mouthed gay basher in the upcoming series of Ricky Gervais-scripted comedy Extras.

Cheggers, known to millions as the lovable face of 1980’s kids TV, wowed gay audiences with his chiselled body in the experimental Channel Five show Naked Jungle in 2000.

All the contestants in the gameshow were naked – as was Cheggers. Inexplicably, only one episode of the show was ever made.

Keith stars as a washed-up comedian in a cameo role in Extras. He states that the BBC is “run by Jews and queers,” before launching a four-letter word tirade against gays.

The role was turned down by duck enthusiast Keith Harris, who said he was not that desperate for work. Cheggers stepped in to take the role, proving once again why he is one of Britain’s best-loved TV faces.

Ricky Gervais called his appearance, “the most excruciating cameo we’ve done, including Les Dennis.”

The new series of Extras, which begins on BBC2 tomorrow night at 9pm, stars a host of other gay icons. As reported by PinkNews.co.uk earlier this month, Sir Ian McKellen will play a camper-than-life version of himself.

Also appearing this series are David Bowie, Chris Martin, Orlando Bloom, Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe, Germaine Greer, Dame Diana Rigg, Moira Stewart, Richard Briers, Ronnie Corbett, Robert Lindsay, and the poshest gay man in Britain, Stephen Fry.
